Meet Bethany
Meet Bethany, our Head of Planning. Bethany has been with Moving Venue for just over three years and joined as the Exclusive Sales Manager for Magazine London. Now, as Head of Planning, we take the time to get to know a little more about her and her time here at Moving Venue.
HOW DID YOU START OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?
I had a keen interest in hospitality from a young age, working both in kitchens as a trainee chef, as well as a waitress both in restaurants and on events alongside school. This developed my love of the events industry, and I then went on to study Events Management at Bournemouth University. The course was great and gave me a lot of experience across the whole scope of the events world, however once graduated, I couldn’t stay away from the hospitality side, and decided a London based catering company was my next dream move! After reaching out to all the London caterers that I managed to find, I was lucky enough to be offered a job, and I have been a part of the wonderful world of catering ever since.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE LONDON VENUE?
This is a tough question as there are so many that I love for many different reasons!
Magazine London will always be special as it’s the venue I have seen from the very beginning, and the variety of events that take place ensure that no two days are the same.
Another favourite would have to be the Tower of London – this is such an iconic space, and it always feels so special when you are walking around the Towers late at night, knowing the depth of history that has taken place here. We are often so lucky to have these ‘behind the scenes’ viewpoints when catering in these unique venues that aren’t often available to the public – who wouldn’t want to plate up a three-course dinner next to the gilded armours of Charles I?!
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO MOVING VENUE?
I had always known of Moving Venue and their respected reputation in the industry, so they had always been on my radar. A brand-new venue came onto the scene, Magazine London, and Moving Venue were the exclusive catering partner for this venue. I had been approached to take on the exciting role of managing the sales and planning of the catering elements for all events within the venue, and whilst certainly a challenging next step for me, it was an offer I simply couldn’t refuse!
WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR PEOPLE STARTING IN THE INDUSTRY?
Try and get as much experience as possible! Getting out there volunteering, helping out friends and getting as much work experience increases your exposure to the many different roles and responsibilities within the industry, and allows you to get a real feel for what area of events is best suited to you. It is also an industry where it helps to know people in the right places, so again getting out there and increasing your network is super beneficial!
