A REVIEW OF BARDO ST JAMES BY VICTORIA SHKIRENKO
One Pall Mall welcomed Bardo St James’s at the end of last year: a plush and decadent restaurant as grand as its SW1 address. Bardo is an Italian restaurant that was almost immediately fully booked after opening. Our very own Victoria Shkirenko tells us all about her experience.
Experience Italian opulence
Found at One Pall Mall, Bardo St James’s is a high-end Italian restaurant and entertainment space, which comprises of a large restaurant with an open kitchen, a walk-in wine cellar boasting an extensive fine wine selection, a whisky room, a private dining room, a private lounge and a long marble bar for guests to perch at.
The menu is an example of how, when it comes to food, Italians arguably do it well if not the best. You can enjoy a run of sophisticated Italian dishes which make the most of fine produce sourced in both the UK and Italy. The kitchen is headed up by chef Graziano Bonacina, who has designed a seasonally evolving menu where vegetables take centre stage.
Guests enjoyed a series of courses, starting with antipasti. We couldn’t resist sharing slices of pizza covered in glistening fior di latte.
Next up are delicate bowls of fresh, buttery pasta which melt in your mouth. Options include lobster tagliatelle, but for us, the ricotta and mascarpone cheese agnolotti with rich brown butter and leeks covered in black truffle was ‘the one’.
The triumph of the night was the tiramisu’s extra-thick layer of chocolate, teamed with ice cream handmade in-house with perfect layers of aromatic coffee-soaked sponge.
Bardo is a great place to enjoy a lavish dinner with a group of friends and I can’t wait to go back!
