Kanye West proposed at AT&T Park in San Francisco so that he could present an elaborate set-up to his ladylove before getting down on one knee to pop the big question. He commissioned a 50-piece orchestra to play some of Kim's favourite songs (like his song "Knock You Down" with Keri Hilson and Ne-Yo) as a fireworks show punctuated the excitement that was already in the air, and he even arranged for a visual aide in the form of "PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!" blasted out on the Jumbotron. What Kim thought was just a very romantic birthday celebration turned out to be much more when Yeezy presented his girl a 15-carat cushion-cut diamond ring by Lorraine Schwartz, who was one of the select friends of the family to witness the proposal. The couple have since tied the knot in an even more outrageous wedding ceremony in Italy, but we'll always remember the moment their journey to marriage began. What an event!
If you’re friends with theatre types, you could go all singing, all dancing for little to no cost with a small flash mob in a cosy setting. Arrange a meal with your other half at your favourite restaurant and get your friends choreographing a routine to your favourite song. You can even get involved yourself. Could be embarrassing, but memorable!
We know of one lucky lady who was proposed to whilst taking a boat trip down the Hudson River in New York. After the proposal, she was whisked straight over to Tiffany’s to choose her wedding ring. Dreamy!
If a public proposal isn’t your thing and jetting off halfway across the world is not within your budget, keep it simple. Perhaps recreate your first date, or the first moment you professed your love for one another – any special moment that means a lot to you both.
A man built a full-scale replica of the TARDIS from Doctor Who to propose to his girlfriend. He spent two months following plans to build the time machine in his garage, agonising over the right colour of blue to paint it with. He customised his construction with the message "will you marry me?" along the top, but got down on one knee with a ring (not a key to the TARDIS, as some have hoped) to ask the question for good measure. And guess what? She said yes!
