First Light Showcase

Last year, Moving Venue had the honour of partnering with Royal Museums Greenwich to deliver a truly immersive dining experience aboard the legendary Cutty Sark, as part of the museum’s innovative First Light Project.

For this exclusive evening, our chef brigade designed a menu that paid homage to Cutty Sark’s global trade routes and the wider Royal Museums Greenwich collection, drawing inspiration from the celestial themes of the Royal Observatory and the classical beauty of Queen’s House.

Upon arrival, guests were welcomed with a selection of expertly crafted cocktails, including The Queen’s House Punch and The Sailor.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a carefully curated selection of canapés, each with a story to tell:

  • Cured Queen Scallop, BBQ Cucumber, Ponzu, Herb Emulsion – Beautifully presented on a spiral staircase stand, paying homage to Queen’s House’s iconic Tulip Stairs
  • Lunar Quail Egg, Truffle Toast – A celestial-inspired dish, representing the astronomical discoveries of the Royal Observatory.

As guests explored the venue, they encountered a series of interactive food stations designed to enhance the storytelling of the event.

  • London Cured Smoked Salmon Carving Station – A theatrical nod to Britain’s maritime trade, featuring the finest hand-carved smoked salmon, served fresh to order.
  • ‘Grab & Go’ Bowls with Purple Haze Carrots, Yoghurt, Sumac, Fermented Carrot Ketchup, Meteor Sesame Shower – A vibrant and flavour-packed dish, subtly referencing the celestial theme of RMG’s historic Planetarium.

The interplay between history, storytelling, and gastronomic creativity ensured that every element of the evening felt deeply connected to the Cutty Sark and the wider Royal Museums Greenwich collection.

The First Light Project is a pioneering initiative by Royal Museums Greenwich, bringing together venue hire, corporate development, membership, and commercial partnerships to create extraordinary experiences. Designed to engage agencies and brands with the potential of Royal Museum Greenwich’s extraordinary event spaces, they are reimagining their venues as platforms for immersive storytelling and innovative event concepts.

For Moving Venue, this showcase was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in bespoke menu creation and historic venue catering. Our mission is to ensure that every event tells a story through food—and aboard Cutty Sark, that story was one of adventure and exploration. It was an honour to partner with Royal Museums Greenwich to bring this to life.
